I sort of prefer the grittiness of the original. The movement is more fluid in the remake and that's definitely preferable, but the people in particular feel _too_ polished and I find that a bit jarring. At any rate, I'm sure I'll enjoy the remake.

Gosh, what a trip (down on memory lane, I mean!): I still have the original game on CD for Mac, which I bought in 1993, somewhere in some cupoboard!! I believe the APC in 3 is like the van in 1 and is an actual boss. The machine gunners and the heavy armor guard can be interpreted as mini-bosses or regular enemies depending on how you look at them.

Man, I love the idea of these remakes, but their ability to do characters in the age of metahuman is pretty cringy. I really miss the live action acting that has so much more nuance.

I understand the need to upgrade, but the FMV sequences were a huge part of the charm of the originals. Wish they had just tried to remaster the footage instead.

The new one is very cool. But taking out the live action vids, that was part of their staple, "And wonderful work", that they slowly veered away from in their later games, seems like such a waste. I don't know why, but the cg versions look really out of place and ruins the immersion, Like they are two different graphics all together. One HD , other Low Res.

Towards the end, I can imagine the Brain Bug just sitting there, staring at Verhaegen as he rants at them, thinking "What the hell did I do? It's not _my_ fault some random warrior killed some random, uh, human equivalent of a warrior - " RATATATATAT

For me, personally, definitely the original because of many things that others have mentioned here! Atmosphere, light and shadow, 3D character...and TEXTURES! I would also like to point out other important details. Look at the water on the coast here at 3:59! It's like you're really on a tropical rock island! It's shallow on the shore, you see the beautiful colors of the water and the rocks and then the deep sea behind it! Such little details everywhere. Everything rationalized away! And right after that at 4:15! Can you see the striking difference in detail? WHO would think of leaving a bridge with steel girders rusty because of the sea water and, watch out, sagging because of the hot temperatures and the weight! All gone! Yes, the new Doom looks good at this point.... And we are in a 1st person view...what a wasted opportunity to provide US with an avatar (M or W) for immersion!!! Now we are flying through RIVEN without a body! And we are NOT allowed to look around while sitting in the gondola! WHY?! PS.: No Moving clouds and 2D fog

none of new remastered games have the essence of original in general all of this remaster are worst, 2k, 1080p, unreal 100, ray tracing,...yes... all of that modern artificial sh1tty techs have not the charm of handcrafted games. That games have a human touch, modern games look fake like programmed by machines

Visually, this looks amazing. I think it's a shame they dropped the FMV, but considering that would definitely mean a complete recasting (and I remember people being particular about Rand Miller playing Atrus), I can sort of see why they went the CGI route, if only for that reason. I'm not sure why Atrus links away in the opening though. Game-wise, I'm assuming it's so they don't have to animate the character while your standing there, but if that's the case, why not link through as in the original and start in the cage? I thought the only reason Riven didn't destabilise was because he was writing corrections nearly constantly to counteract them, but it's been a while since I played, I might be wrong.

Comanche Gold was my first game from the saga and I loved it. Later I purchased Comanche 4, and got me disappointed.

It'll be nice if they remade Temujin. It was my last FMV puzzle game I played. I believe it was made released in 1997 so it was last of its kind before this type of genre disappeared just this game.

I saved Del because he was solid even when JD started losing his composure but dam man Marcus losing his wife, son, father, best friend all the shit he has endured shit was tuff to do but seemed like the more realistic outcome.

Interesting that the original looks more immersive to me. Apart from the ability to move freely there is no real reason for the remake.
